The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) in Saint Kitts and Nevis is responsible for processing all applications and conducting thorough due diligence. Upon approval, applicants over 16 years old may be required to attend a mandatory interview, which can be done virtually (the default option) or in person at a location designated by the CIU and approved by the Board of Governors.
Interviews are conducted by an independent professional firm contracted by the CIU, which also performs background checks. All background checks are commissioned by the CIU and carried out by independent professional firms in Europe, the UK, and the USA in line with the Board of Governors' requirements. Applications will be rejected if an applicant provides false information or omits relevant details.
The approval process typically takes about 120 days (or 4 months) from the submission of the application to the issuance of the passport. After approval and the completion of the required investment, applicants receive a Certificate of Registration confirming their citizenship. This certificate must be collected in person in Saint Kitts and Nevis or at a designated embassy or consulate approved by the Board of Governors.
Once you have the Certificate of Registration, you are entitled to receive your passport.
Yes, you can obtain a St. Kitts passport while retaining your current citizenship, as Saint Kitts and Nevis legally recognizes dual citizenship.
However, keep in mind that not all countries permit dual citizenship, and your country of current citizenship may not allow you to acquire citizenship elsewhere. You can check your country’s stance on dual citizenship here. If your country does not allow it, the only way to hold multiple passports would be to renounce your existing citizenship.
The legal foundation for the Citizenship by Investment Program in Saint Kitts and Nevis is established under the Saint Christopher and Nevis Citizenship Act, 1984 (No. 1 of 1984), along with the accompanying Saint Christopher and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Regulations, which have been amended periodically. This legislation outlines the requirements, procedures, and benefits associated with obtaining citizenship through economic contributions to the country.
